Session 1

Suggested Study Time: 2 hours
Material from pages 1-41 in Holy Spirit 101

About this Session

The most important aim of Session 1 is to remove doubts, fears, and worries about the charismatic material, connect with the students, and ultimately make them feel comfortable enough to approach a prayer team for the practicum after the lecture.

Prior to watching the first video, students should be familiar with pages 1-41 of the text, Holy Spirit 101.

STUDENT LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After reading pages 1-41 of Holy Spirit 101 and watching the video, it is our hope that students will be able to:

  • Give examples of the movements of the Holy Spirit from the beginning of the Church to present times
  • Explain why it is important to today
  • Give examples of evangelizing in cooperation with the Holy Spirit
  • Distinguish between personal and charismatic charisms
  • Name the defining elements of charisms
  • Identify the nine Pauline charisms
  • Identify the elements necessary for yielding to the Holy Spirit
  • Define Outpouring of the Holy Spirit
  • Recognize consolations associated with the Outpouring of the Holy Spirit
  • Explain how to pray for an Outpouring of the Holy Spirit
  • Prayerfully discern their personal short-term commitment in growing in the charisms of the Holy Spirit
  • Recognize that growing in the charisms is a lifelong process
